We are in the process of developing an annual program. In the meantime, international and Indonesian individuals and groups are welcome to apply for a residency at any time of the year, either for using the spaces for your own work or for developing a collaboration with others.
If you would prefer to only use the rehearsal facilities and find accommodation off site, there are several hotels of varying price and quality within 30 minutes’ drive. Online accommodation services offer a large number of apartments and houses at low prices, many also within 30 minutes’ drive. Please contact us about facilities-only rates.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A RESIDENCY
If we haven’t been introduced already, please send us your summary biography, CV or group portfolio, and a statement about what you want to do, and when.
If possible, please contact us several months before your intended residency.
We have two ‘packages’ of residencies for individuals and groups.
Minimum residency period is 7 nights unless otherwise negotiated.
Package 1: Up to you: use of the facilities, accommodation and meals. We will leave you alone to concentrate on your own processes; providing three meals a day and chats when you feel like it. If you want at some point to have more support (similar to type 2 below), then higher rates apply and would it be nice to let us know in advance if at all possible.
Package 2: Program support: as well as the use of the facilities, accommodation and meals, we will work with you to devise a program that suits your interests. This includes arranging interviews, meetings, attendance at events (entry charges not included), and anything else you want and we can provide, plus transport (car with driver/guide who speaks Indonesian and English, fuel and toll fees included) within Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta: the cities of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi).
For residency costs, please see Rates.
We have WiFi but it’s not like high-speed broadband. If you’re a gamer or other heavy data user, we suggest that maybe Sanggar O wouldn’t be optimal for you.
SIM cards can be purchased cheaply and easily at the airport and many other locations, including near the sanggar. Data rates are not expensive. We strongly urge you to buy an Indonesian SIM card when you arrive.
However, if you come from a country that locks phones (such as the USA), you could perhaps arrange roaming before you leave, although this is not optimal because of weird connectivity and lack of access to apps that make life a little easier (or more interesting). You could also buy a cheap smartphone here for around USD 200 or EUR 180 that will mean you aren’t stranded in between WiFi hotspots. That will be good for your (and our) peace of mind and security.
